A Guide to Comparing Smartphones by Size

The options available among smartphones are umpteen and endless. People are spoilt for choice when it comes to each and every possible smartphone specification. Yes, besides options in the inner software and brand name, another major factor that affects a person’s choice in buying a smartphone is a major specification, which is the size of the smartphone. By smartphone size comparison, most people imply the size of the screen, as the overall dimensions and the thickness of the handset will also be affected by the size of the screen. So, what are the usual screen sizes on offer in smartphones when you look at a detailed smartphone compare?

Well, let’s start with screens that extend to 4.5 inches. People may be surprised with the fact that others still buy phones that come with a 4.5 inch or smaller screen. However, not everyone has big enough hands to be able to wield a phablet easily single handedly. Besides, some people feel that a 4.5 inch screen suffices their usual smartphone needs. For these people, bigger isn’t necessarily better, and for good reason.
If you go through usual smartphone comparisons, the most common smartphones (and some of the best ones at that) come with a screen size of 5 inch. This is considered the average screen size, with most bestselling handset, like the Moto G2, Samsung Galaxy S5 (5.1 inches), HTC One M8, Moto X2 (5.2 inches) sporting a 5 inch screen.

There are also devices that opt for the slot that falls in between a smartphone and a phablet, with a screen of 5.5 inches. These include OnePlus One, HTC Desire 826, Yu Yureka, Galaxy A7, HTC Desire 816 G, etc. If you look closely at any smartphone compare, you’ll realize that these smartphones offer just a little more screen space than their slightly smaller sized 5 inch companions.
Lastly, we come to smartphones meant for people with giant hands. These are devices that people weren’t sure how to categorize (smartphones or tablets), so they just made their own category of phablets. These are smartphones that come with a screen that’s 6 inches or more. Examples of phablets include Sony Xperia Z Ultra, Asus Zenfone 6, LG G Flex, Nokia Lumia 1520, Nexus 6, etc. All of these handsets sport a 6 inch display.

So, that was a quick smartphone size comparison preview. Going through detailed smartphone comparisons is a good way to know how screens of different handhelds vary from one another. In the end, what smartphone you opt for all depends on your ease of handling and your personal requirement regarding the display of your smartphone.
