Apple is currently wasting no time in
releasing updates for its iTunes feature. However, the updates being rolled in
recently are more of damage control and bug fixes than the usual rollout of
interesting updates that push you one step further to comfort and ease of use.
The new update for the Apple iTunes is the 12.2.1 update, which rolled out this
week. The update manages to come with bug fixes and correction of music library
details.
It’s a good thing that the Apple iTunes latest update came along
soon enough because Apple is still recovering from the debacle that was the
12.2 update. This update didn’t sit too well with Apple users, as the problem
with this update was not even just technical and bug related but extended to
basic database problems as well. This included mismatched song names, artist
names, music genre, etc. Apple’s music service was thus launched through a
medium which resulted in initial very negative reactions. Reviews were
scathingly negative with several users even advising others to not opt for the
update till a better version with bug fixes is released.
This is a relative rarity in Apple’s
history, which hasn’t seen such overwhelmingly negative reactions in a while.
The music subscription service available isn’t very easy to follow and
user-friendly either. As this entire mix-up has escalated, Apple’s basically given
its critics, many of who are Android loyalists a reason to be hated on a
platter. Hence, this damage control needed to be done as soon as possible to
ensure that the public wasn’t left agitated for long, especially considering
that the initial Apple iTunes latest update was released on the holiday weekend of the 4th of July,
which is a golden opportunity for brands to cash in on releases on offers.
Another complaint that many users have
regarding the iTunes store is that it’s still haphazard and isn’t as
streamlined and categorical as it can be. This makes it cumbersome and
difficult to navigate and find and connect things with. Apple’s own Beats 1
online radio stations hasn’t really managed to capture the fascination of the public,
who are already used to listening to specific genres or prefer world music
streamed live to them. Add to this, the movies, audio books, ringtones and
apps, all of which are clustered together under the same roof, it leads to
confusion and people losing faith in the brand itself.
Hence, the Apple iTunes latest update, besides fixing the bugs present,
should have also worked on revamping the entire iTunes ecosystem. Apple is a
brand that has become synonymous with being complicated and has thus, given
fodder to many of its critics with only itself to blame. It’s time for Apple to
sit down and rethink its strategy, so that in today’s day and age of
simplicity, Apple doesn’t get lost in the maze it has created for itself.
