Facebook is perhaps one of the most ambitious companies in
the world today. At a time when other social networking sites have tried and
perished, Facebook is still going strong, with more and more people joining it
over time. This is a company that always makes it to the handheld news, more often than not for good reasons. Although
Facebook has come under some fire over some unintentional mishaps recently, yet
it has always bounced back, whether it was after its IPO debacle, or criticism
regarding its hope to violate free Internet.
It is no secret that Facebook wishes to completely take over
your Internet usage. Toward this cause, Facebook has already diversified over
the years. By roping in advertisers, Facebook now is one of the leading sources
for social media advertising and sales in the world. in fact, there are tons of
people who even end up buying by being redirected from Facebook to other
e-tailer stores, which is spurring a demand for social media shopping, a
phenomenon that is distinct but not entirely mutually exclusive to online
shopping.
Facebook has now realized that people yet do not completely
rely on it for their daily source of news when accessing this app or site from
their latest smartphones and so,
Facebook is now starting a new feature called Instant Articles. Brought
exclusively to Android smartphones in India, Facebook has teamed up with five major
Indian and international publishing partners, who are India Today, Aaj Tak, Hindustan
Times, the Quint and Mint newspaper. These sources will now provide Indian
users with the latest updates on news and articles that they search for, so
that all their informative needs are fulfilled by Facebook alone, thus not
necessitating that they leave the website at all. Facebook has assured users
that they are working to include more publishing partners, so as to incorporate
everyone’s interest and bring to their wall tailored content according to their
preferences.
Facebook’s new move doesn’t come as a surprise as this
scheme, according to handheld news soruces,
was introduced in the U.S. in May itself. However, Facebook knows that, with
130 million users, India is its largest market outside of the U.S., which means
they need to ensure they do everything right to appease this huge market of
theirs. Also, Facebook is aware that India is a majorly Android driven market,
which is why this feature, for now, has been launched on Indian Android phones
only. There are efforts being made to include this feature in iPhones in India
as well, just as it is available on iOS devices in the U.S.
So, people can now access current affairs and news on their latest smartphones featuring Android
software in India through their favourite social media site. If Facebook
continues to innovate and work toward fulfilling their users’ needs in this
manner, then there is nothing that can stop this social media giant from taking
over the Internet.
