The smartphone market has become so
competitive now that even the big names are going into obscurity thanks to smaller
companies stealing all the limelight. Nokia has almost become a distant memory
and even Samsung is churning out phones by the week just to stay in the latest handheld news. In the midst of
this circus, Lava, a small-time ambitious Indian smartphone maker is trying to
make a mark on its own.
Lava is a brand that has previously
released some not so great handsets in its Iris series. However, working to
undo that damage, Lava is all set to change that with a device that’s being
launched under the latest generation of Android One smartphones. The new LavaPixel V1 sports the latest smartphone specifications, which would rival even the likes of flagships today. The
low budget device comes with a 5.5 inch screen and the latest Android 5.1
Lollipop OS. Under the hood of the device is a quad core processor and a
reasonable 2GB RAM. There is also a surprising 32GB of on-board storage, along
with a slot for a microSD card. The most stunning achievement though is in the
camera department, as this device comes with a 13MP main camera and an
unbelievable 8MP front camera.
Clearly, this phone comes with the latest smartphone specifications, although
perhaps one of the only things working against this phone is its archaic
chipset and its 720p screen resolution. Besides these, the question to be
answered is, would you really buy a flagship handset from an unknown player?
Lava is yet to really make a name for itself, even in the mid-price ranged
market, which is why people would be initially apprehensive about this device. Another
reservation that people have is that many devices seem to look good on paper
but as soon as you hold the device in your hand, you’re left terribly
unimpressed.
However, in the end, for a price like this, can one really
complain?
On the bright side, one of the biggest
selling points for this phone is undoubtedly the fact that it is an Android One
device, which means it will come with guaranteed updates for at least the next
year or two. Also, it is no secret that Android One devices are way smoother
than many flagships, which come with ugly heavy skins. Also, according to the latest handheld news, the sole aim of
the Android One devices is to increase Android’s reach, hence, the target
audience is not people who can afford mid-price ranged or flagship devices
anyway. The point of such devices is merely an increase in reach and not sales.
