From an
unknown name, now Flipkart has become an online sensation in the world of e-commerce.
This was a simple startup envisioned by two young guys who were futuristic
enough in their vision of online retail in India. Accordingly, Flipkart has
grown phenomenally over the past eight years and it only seems to be getting
bigger and better in recent times. Pulling off a feat like the big billion day,
despite a few glitches, is really something that needs to be commended. The app
also sees several purchases each hour, according to handheld news sources.
Also, it helps that Flipkart is the sole seller of several products, most
notably the recent Motorola handsets of the Moto G, Moto E and Moto X, along with their several iterations.
However, the
threat of rivals is looming large and Flipkart already knows that. Amazon has
its eyes on the Indian market and has gone on record to say that it aims to make
its Indian market its largest market outside of the US. Hence, besides jut
selling tactics, like selling the latest Moto G 3rd Gen, and making headlines in the world of handheld news, Flipkart knows it needs to work to
make a difference in the sales and ensure that rivals don’t eat into Flipkart’s
sales. Hence, the innovative company is now looking at ways to do away with its
logistics problem. It is no secret that many people have complained regarding
not just Flipkart’s delivery rate but also about the lackadaisical attitude
shown by the delivery personnel. This is a common complain registered by many
people, when third parties are involved in the logistics arm. Thus, to compete
with Amazon’s new ‘Kirana Now’ initiative of super quick delivery, Flipkart is alliancing
with several merchants to make its deliveries faster, reportedly within hours
of orders being placed. The new ‘f Qck’ initiative from Flipkart aims to do
away with its logistics lag, which is pushing people toward the quicker
services of Amazon, which has its own extensive delivery service.
Another
major innovation that Flipkart is working toward is merging
the experience of online and brick and mortar store shopping. Rather than
having customers wait for product delivery, Flipkart is looking to make things
easier by launching stores and centers, from where people can collect their
online orders. These collection centers will be present not only in cities but
Flipkart wishes to move them to towns and villages as well, in an attempt to
bring rural India into the fold of online shopping as well. At these so-called
‘experience zones’, Flipkart also wishes to allow for trial runs and returns in
case of damaged products.
Thus,
Flipkart is definitely working toward making online shopping easier and more
accessible for people all over India. If it continues its innovative strategies
and works to make products affordable and easily available, then Amazon is
looking at some tough competition indeed.
