The Chinese invasion of smartphone brands is not a new
phenomenon and the war has climaxed to the extent that it a few winners seem to
be emerging. According to the latest
mobile phone news, Xiaomi and Huawei have already clocked incredible sales
and have leading handsets that have done exceedingly well. Unfortunately, in the
midst of these smartphone brands are other lesser known names that tend to get
lost in the crowd. One such name is ZTE, which is a brand that has churned out
tons of phones, and all of them have sunk without a trace. However, taking a
cue from what’s hot and what’s not, ZTE seems to have done its homework, as the
latest handset from the Chinese smartphone maker, the ZTE Axon Secret, seems to be a handset worthy of attention.
The Axon Secret, during its not-so-secret launch this
month, was unveiled as a handset equipped with a 5.5 inch screen. The phone
runs on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, with ZTE’s own skin. The processor in the
device is the very latest octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor along with an
exceptionally spacious 4GB RAM. These figures itself lay the foundation for the
phone being a mean speed machine. The internal storage is also a massive 128GB,
which isn’t all its users are restricted to. There’s also an additional slot
for a microSD card, which can go up to 128GB. The connectivity options of the ZTE Axon Secret are quite commendable
too, as it includes high speed 4G/LTE connectivity, besides the usual options
like Bluetooth, NFC and Wi-Fi. The camera too is a premium one, with the main
camera being a 13MP one, and the front camera a 2MP one.
The Axon series, with the Axon Secret and the Axon
Pro, are set to be ZTE’s main focus in the coming months. The only saving grace
for ZTE among its smartphones till date has been its Nubia handsets, which have
managed to at least garner some attention and make it to the latest mobile phone news, even if its
sales are a far cry from the figures achieved by other companies. ZTE has always shied away from competing
in the flagship department, which makes the new Axon series an open challenge
from ZTE for its competitors.
Considering ZTE’s background, this phone will
probably cost way lesser than most flagships which sport similar specs, such as
a Snapdragon 810 chipset. However, few names can really compete with the
massive RAM and internal storage, which is where ZTE will have an edge.
However, since this is still a brand that isn’t considered premium, ZTE will
need to work hard to establish its flagship Axon series and garner enough sales
for it to be deemed a success in the smartphone world.
