The
time of the year is right for newer releases as top names are competing with
one another for mileage and sales. The competition is heating up as OnePlus announced
the OnePlus 2, Samsung is set to release the Note 5 and Apple is slated to
introduce a new variant of its iPhone 6 sometime next month as well. In the
meantime, Motorola decided to sweep in and steal all the limelight with the
release of not one but three handsets, the Moto G 3rd gen, Moto X
Style and Moto X Play, along with two wireless headphones.
Motorola’s
new Android lineup was unveiled at three different locations, New York City,
London and Sao Paulo, simultaneously broadcast through a live stream, which was
watched by thousands of people. Motorola has also diversified this time, with
the launch of two new wireless headphones, Moto Pulse and Moto surround. Here
is the lowdown of all the five products launched.
The
highly anticipated new Moto G hardly comes with any surprises, seeing as the detailed
event came after weeks of reported rumours and leaks, many of which proved to
be right in the end. The new Moto G comes with excellent features, including a 5
inch display, Corning Gorilla Glass 3, Android Lollipop 5.1.1 OS, quad core
Snapdragon chipset, 8GB storage with 1GB RAM/16GB storage with 2GB RAM, 4G/LTE
connectivity, 13MP main camera and 5MP front camera. This handset is also IPX7
water resistant and comes with the special ‘chop chop’ feature which allows for
hands-free activation of the torch. Another feature taken from last year’s Moto
X is the Moto Display feature, which allows users to view notifications without
the need to switch on the display. Not just that, Motorola has also opened
doors of the Moto Maker for the new Moto G, as several customizations are
allowed with this handset, including the accent piece, front and back colours
and optional engraving. Clearly, Motorola’s most popular phone till date, the
Moto G, is set to soar to greater heights with its newest iteration.
Launched
as Moto X Pure Edition in the US, the Moto X Style is the uber cool flagship
handset from Motorola. The Moto X Style is a phablet of sorts and comes with a fantastic
5.7 inch screen that comes with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, Android
5.1.1 Lollipop OS, Snapdragon 808 chipset, 16GB/32GB/64GB internal storage, 3GB RAM, a
whopping 21MP main camera and 5MP front camera. Set to be available sometime
early September, with the Moto X Style, Motorola is set to compete with the
best flagships around, with it fantastic camera and screen clearly making other
flagships pale in comparison.
The
Moto X Play is a smaller version of the Moto X Style despite being a step above
last year’s Moto X. The Moto X Play sports a 5.5 inch screen with a 1080p
resolution, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS, NFC support, Snapdragon 615 chipset, 16GB/32GB
internal storage, 21MP main camera and 5MP front camera. Hence, besides the
smaller screen and the processor, the Moto X Play is similar to the bigger and
pricier Moto X Style. Set to be available sometime in August, the Moto X Play
is for people looking for a slightly more affordable flagship handset than
premium devices, including the Moto X Style.
Moto Pulse
For
people who like sporting a pair of headphones and enjoy their music loud and
clear, Motorola launched the Moto Pulse, a pair of on-ear headphones with 40mm
speaker drivers packed in. It offers up to 60 feet of wireless range, while
also allowing users to take calls. This device pairs with not just Motorola
handsets but with all Android phones, iPhones, tablets and Bluetooth enabled
computers. The headband is light and comes with rechargeable battery offering up
to 18 hours of playtime. Available for $59.99, the Moto Pulse is a pair of
affordable headphones for audiophiles.
Moto Surround
Another
option for audiophiles who don’t like to carry cumbersome headphones is Moto
Surround. These are wireless earbuds which let users enjoy HD sound and music for
up to 12 hours while being within 150 feet of range of the source. The contoured
collar fits around the neck, and comes with water and sweat resistance. You can
also make and receive calls on this device, thanks to the built-in mic and talk
button. The Moto Surround is also compatible with Android phones, iPhone,
tablets and Bluetooth enabled computers. Available for $69.99, the Moto
Surround is a great option for people who wish to enjoy great sound quality,
without the hassle of headphones.
Thus,
Motorola clearly is looking to capture the market and maintain its unchallenged
position with the new Moto G and Moto X. Whether or not the Moto G 3rd
gen will be able to recreate the magic of the original Moto G, only time will
tell but for now, Motorola seems confident that its new launches will help cement
its brand name into the minds of users and critics alike.
